Spring watch 2016 - Sea Lampreys spawning

I filmed these bizarre and very ancient fish in the River Wye. Like salmon, they spend most of their adult lives at sea, returning to freshwater to spawn and die.

Wild Mexico: the vegetarian spider

This jumping spider steals food that an Acacia plant has laid on for the ants that live within the plant and protect it. This was all filmed in the wild and to counteract the constant breeze we had to use strings tied to heavy camera cases to keep the stems of the plant as still as possible.

In central Mexico, in a few scattered mountain pine forests, the entire population of North America's monarch butterflies come to spend winter before migrating north to breed and feed and start the cycle all over again.
